Background

The Meteor Fund is a nonprofit organization devoted to funding creative work and conversation that advances gender justice. We are an affiliated project of the new feminist media collective The Meteor, which creates storytelling across platforms around issues that affect the lives of women. At The Meteor Fund, we will both create discussion groups, workshops and toolkits that expand the public impact of The Meteor’s work, and support our own original creative projects—all with an eye to changing culture and our world. As we head toward our official launch in 2021, we are looking for a skilled and mission-driven Program Director to lead all aspects of strategy and execution for The Meteor Fund.

This is a job for you if you are skilled at the creative planning and execution of projects—but also willing to lean into all aspects of growing our nonprofit, including development and donor relations. You should also have a commitment to and deep understanding of gender and racial equity, some exposure to media/journalism, and enthusiasm about growing an endeavor from the ground up. This is a full-time role.

Your Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Lead all aspects of strategy and execution for TMF, from programming to development and donor relations
  • Collaborate with TMF’s affiliate, The Meteor, and its internal and external stakeholders, such as its fiscal sponsor, the New Venture Fund
  • Develop and implement mission-focused programming, including determining project needs and then supervising those projects and their corresponding teams
  • Set benchmarks and goals for the first two years of TMF, in collaboration with leadership team of The Meteor
  • Devise evaluation strategies to track performance against key metrics, and evolve programming accordingly
  • Maintain and deepen relationships with existing donors (including foundations, large institutional donors, philanthropists and more) and work with The Meteor co-founders to cultivate new ones
  • Develop relationships with partner organizations
  • Working with counsel, ensure proper C3 compliance
  • With the support of operations team, create programming budgets, monitor overall financial health, and make fundraising-based recommendations

Your Qualifications

We are looking for an individual who has:

  • Deep interest in and commitment to advancing gender equity, especially through journalism and art
  • 10+ years experience in nonprofit programming, with at least 8 years experience in a leadership role, successfully overseeing programming strategy
  • Demonstrated success managing and building donor relations
  • Excellent communication skills to follow through with both internal and external stakeholders
  • The ability to give direction, take direction, and also work independently with a high degree of initiative
  • The agility to work on multiple projects simultaneously, create priorities and timelines, and meet deadlines, all with an eye for detail
  • The passion to help us build our TMF presence from the ground level

Even better if you also:

  • Have worked in a non-traditional environment or a startup nonprofit, the women’s space, the journalism space, or some combination thereof
  • Have experience with digital workshops and events
  • Love being hands-on in all aspects of strategy, programming, and development
